Outstanding versatile Russian “pencil-type” microphones designed in 1963 at the Nikfi research facility. In-line 10dB pads are standard accessories and capsules are interchangeable for different polar patterns. Excellent on toms, percussion, drum overheads, and acoustic string instruments (especially dobro and mandolin), but beware of exaggerated proximity effect, most noticeable in the low mids. Low noise and exceptional distance sensitivity make them outstanding for capturing ambience in a large hall.
